When they become a team leader, they are more like the orches- trator of the collective team activities, encouraging the team to work together to address key challenges and issues and to be mutually accountable for the collective goals, not just their individual objectives.
In a coaching culture, all team leaders will see coaching as a key aspect of their role, not only the coaching of individuals who are their direct reports, but also coaching the collective team to perform at more than the sum of its parts.
Collective team learning and all the individual team members' learning go hand in hand and all high-performing teams are committed to both processes.
However, team leaders are beginning to recognize that in addition to coaching and developing each of their team members, another of their key roles is to coach the collective team in how it performs and engages both internally in its team dynamics and externally with its stakeholders.
